Recently I've noticed the idle temps on XFX 7950 DD are higher than they should be, or used to be in any case. Temp in idle is 55c - 60c right after booting up and it pretty much stays there. The fan speed - which I haven't fiddled around with manually - actually defaults at 31% too.

This hasn't always been the case. Until I noticed this one or two weeks ago the last thing I remember was the GPU idling around 40c with 20% fan speed. The weird thing is I rarely see temps go over 70c under load and I've never seen them over 75c, so the load temps seem to be fine. Still - first sign my card is on its way out? I know XFX aren't known for their great cooling but I don't think I've had it for more than 18 months or so. Very much doubt its the case, my hardware lingers in a spacious Fractal big tower with 2 intake and 2 outtake fans.

Sounds like a dust build up. Get a can of compressed air, hold down the fan and blow short bursts to get all the dust out.

I feel kind of stupid right now for not doing that before I made this thread. I blame the flu. I'll try that tomorrow morning and report back if problems persist/pick your post as a solution if they don't, ty.

If dust isn't the culprit, you can always re-paste the GPU. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this if your warranty isn't up, as it WILL be void after taking the cooler off. But in any case, its a relatively easy thing to do if you're careful and take your time. GPU vendors are notorious for not exactly doing a bang-up job on applying thermal paste between the GPU and cooling interface. I'd recommend getting a high quality paste and giving it a try! If your warranty is up, you really don't have much to lose :)
