i7-4790K Devils Canyon 4.0ghz
Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme CPU Cooler
ASUS Maximus VII FORMULA Mobo
G. Skill Ripjaws Z Series 2x8gb @ 1866
Samsung 850 Pro Series 1TB
Zotac GTX 980 AMP! Extreme Edition
Corsair 760T
Antec High Current Pro Platinum 1000w
ASUS DRW-24B1ST Drive

I want something that can pump out just about any game on max settings now and that I can throw another GTX 980 or two in later to keep up with future games. I was seriously considering an X99 system but from the sounds of it that wouldn't be worth the money unless I'm rendering. Besides games I'll also be using it for X-Plane 10 as a simulator and for a bit of aerodynamic modeling. Please point out anything you see could be a sticking point as this would be my first build.

Thank you, Erik

Yeah, it is fine. It is overkill, but it will work.

Nice System.
Some suggestions:

Mobo: Asus Maximus Vii hero

Cpu cooler: nzxt kraken x61

For the graphic card, you might want to get one of the reference cooler designs. Since you said you may SLI later, the reference cooler deinitely will perform better in SLI situations. Not a huge deal though.

PSU: get a corsair or seasonic.

Is the Hero the better version?

I'm pathetic and had to look up what reference cooler means. So would you think the EVGA Superclocked? I heard some people had issues with it.

I was shooting in the dark with coolers and power supplies because I don't know the reliable brands yet.

But only the hx and ax series for corsair, the others arent particularly great. Also, xfx has good psus.

Your PSU's fine. Corsair's good units are usually overpriced a bit, and you can probably find an equally good one at a lower price.

Would the EVGA GTX 980 Superclocked be a good option for a reference cooler card?

Yes super clocked are good options. I am currently running 2x evga 780 Ti superclocked and they are great.
As for the motherboard, hero is not the better version, but its a great board for almost half the price.

That makes sense. Also I added one little 120 fan for the bottom as it doesn't come with one and I won't be using that drive slot anyway. $12 to make me feel better about airflow ;)

As this is my first build is there anything that I want to buy along with the hardware mentioned. Things like extra hardware, cables that won't be included, thermal compound is supposed to be on the cooler already, tools besides the standard screwdriver set that could make my life easier, etc etc. I just don't wanna wait a couple weeks for a screw when I've already ordered $3,000 in parts.

Thanks again, Erik

No, you should be set. Since you say this is your first build, be sure to discharge yourself of any static before building your comp.

I'll probably go to youtube university for the specifics of the build. And likely be on here begging for advice again if it goes awry in any way. I appreciate everyones help on the configuration. I effectively dropped the price about 300-400. I'll likely either get a better monitor (mmmmm LG 34um95) or just throw the other card in SLI off the bat (maybe both).
