I have cloned my ssd from my hard drive. I want to make the ssd primary for

everything--boot, programs, etc and use the HDD solely as backup. I assume

I need to plug the ssd into the primary SATA 0 port on the motherboard so

the system will treat the ssd as the c: drive (screen shot

http://screencast.com/t/lQtOSeP349A5). But when I do this and boot to the

ssd, I get a message to insert the windows 7.1 disk for repair. Once I do

insert (the disk that came with the system), I get a message that the disk

does not contain the proper repair program. (The system still seems to

expect to see the HDD as primary).

Maybe I can just plug the ssd into the SATA 1 port on the momtherboard? But

how do I have the system treat the ssd as the primary drive and label it C:

so that when I access a program from the programs menu (by clicking the

start button), the system access thes SSD?

Here is what I have now with the ssd labeled as G, I and J.

(I do not know why the cloning software created 3 partitions on the ssd but

I can fix that later).

There are several partitions that Windows creates for proper operation. Sometimes the migration software will get it right - other times you have to reinstall Windows on the SSD (out of 5 tries at home, 2 were successful, 3 were not). I used the same program to do all 5.....

I always suggest unplugging the HDD, install Windows 7 on a blank SSD, then add the HDD and setup the hard drive.

If you are sure you cloned all the partitions, Try plugging the SSD into the port the HDD was in originally and booting up with the hdd disconnected.
