Hi all, im trying to fix a hp laptop running 8.1 that has clearly been infected with malware unfortunately the computer will freeze after around 2 minutes so its hard for us to be able to fix the problem and with it being windows 8 the reboot after running virus software download/install in safemode will default restart in normal windows 8 and not safe mode and thus we can complete the set up process. What do you believe is the best way to sort this? I've been thinking that running a live USB and booting with and external Linux drive and then using quarantine software to check the windows OS is the only way to fix this besides re-installing windows on the computer and unfortunately we are not able to do this

You can download an ISO and create a bootable flash drive or DVD from this link: http://lifehacker.com/how-to-create-a-windows-8-install...

Instead of creating a bootable Linux DVD with a virus scanner - can you remove the hard drive and connect it to another PC? (external USB enclosure/docking station or connect it directly via SATA cables) You should be able to use the other computer to scan the drive.
