Is the Devils Canyon update on lesser i5 going to make it better than an Intel Core i7-4770K?

I see a good deal on a used Intel Core i7-4770K at about $50 less than the new i7-4790K (DC).

The Devils Canyon i5 is about $50 cheaper than the 4770K mentioned.

I do game at 3440 x 1440. I multitask but not while gaming. Do the extra cache and instructions with higher out of the box frequency make up for the better cooling and OC of the newest i5?

Seems a very good question. I can't buy yet.

My motherboard is an Z97-WS and 16GB RAM. A single 760 video card.

I appreciate the helps. This one is giving me a headache. Thanks

Though the Devil's Canyon upgrade was a real disappointment, It's still okay. Other than for multi-player games like BF4, extra cores/hyper-threading don't really help too much. I'd just save the money and get the 4690K. Your money is far better spent on better graphics cards. A 760 with 3440 X 1440 gaming?

I plan to SLI but I had a sudden card failure and had to upgrade when I wasn't ready but yeah it pushes it decent.

I only have an Intel Q9550 right now on an Asus P5 something or other. Any is a fairly significant upgrade and it'll sure help that slouchy video card. It really isn't that bad. I have put off SLI mostly because of the high power use when NOT gaming and just web browsing. Does SLI have power modes? I'm 46 and not as enthusiast as I used to be. Playing D3, Hitman: Absolution, Bioshock Infinite, and Quantum Conundrum right now. Those aren't card killers. I would like to get back to the Battlefield series though. Anyway, SLI sooner or later.

Oh, to clarify things. Mind the numbers as I try and not mix them up.

i7-4790k (Devils) about $335 <---not buying. overkill
i7-4770k (non-Devils) about $255 <---most of a new chip i7-4790 w/out the newest instructions.
i5-4690k (Devils) about $230 <---all I need for the $. New Instructions but almost no cache. Slower clocks but only about 100MHz (right?)

42 FPS on Hitman: Absolution average btw on Normal settings.

Very playable but I figure the RAM holding me back most because it is DDR2.
