SO..I want my PC to have a litttle more POWER.

Here is what I am currently running:

AMD Phenom X4 955
Gigabyte MObO (2011 mobo of the year)
8GB DDR 3 10600 RAM.
Nvidea 460 GT.
Win 7

So,,I was thinking to get the Nvidea 760. But, would I be throwing money away by putting in an older system? I dont have the money to build a whole new rig, but should I save up, or will a new vid card, at least keep me in the game a few more years?

Also, does it matter if my MOBO is only PCI-E 2.0?? The card says 3.0. Is compatible?
THis is what I was looking at..:

A 760 is a good match for your pc. As long as you have a decent 500w+ psu.

The nice thing about nvidia is they are backward compatible from pcie 3.0 back to pcie 1.1, whereas AMD cards are only backwards compatible to pcie 2.2, so you will be all good with a 760 and your mobo.

Also, I believe that your cpu is overclockable, which may help some in newer games.

PCIe 3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0 and a 3.0 card will work in a 2.0. You'll get a bigger performance boost by upgrading the video card then CPU/Mobo afterwards. You can get a R9 280 which is about the same price as a GTX 760 and will beat it.

My son has a Phenom II 940 overclocked to 3.2 so it is the same as a 955. He has a GTX 660 and plays BF4 64 player on High. The CPU runs in the 90+ percent range but he has no stutter or lag.
The 760 will be a major improvement over that 460 GT. When you finally upgrade you take the 760 with you.
Just make sure your power supply will be able to power the 760

About the time pcie 2.2 came out AMD changed their architecture to make better use of pcie tech cuz they were lagging behind due to directX's deal with nvidia cards. Some AMD cards were compatible with 2.2 and back, but most were not, so are only 3.0 - 2.2 compatible, which also happens to be the majority of mobo's out currently as older generations are retired, or in typical AMD fashion, revamped.
