Hi guys, im working on my new build. i dont do any build since 5 years... So im a lilbit out.
I have a 300$ (canadian :p ) budget to spend in my GPU and recently we offer me two ASUS 280x DC2T 3GB for 300$.
I dont play, just doing 3d modeling in cinema 4D (dont need GPU) and i work on video stuff like after effects, premiere...
Which is the best? those two 280x on crossfire or one GTX 970 4GB? (for the GTX 970, its 400$ so i have to find it on second hand or wait...)

Which is the best value?

the 280x is 359$ on newegg

PS: for my build, all that i have now is the case! A nice Fractal design define R4 blackpearl, im planning to put an intel CPU in it.

Thanks a lot for your help :)

If you were gaming the 970 would be on par or slightly better than the 280x's in pure performance. The energy and advantages of single card would win. However, the 280x's are better at rendering and stuff. I'd go 280x.

1 more powerful GPU is better recommended in a lot of cases, but the 2 r9 280x would be fairly powerful, but not all games support cfx. also, the extra vram would help with multimonitor gaming, so there is that, the 2 r9 280x should be able to handle triple 1080p surroung at 60+fps and more at max settings except on non optimized games like watchdogs, or metro last light or 2033, but bf4, tomb raider, dirt3 and many others will be good, as long as they are supported in cfx and triple surround, you could also run 1440p at max settings with one monitor on cfx provided those games support cfx, otherwise you would only be utilizing one of the gpu's power as well as it could, but the 970 should be able to do 1440p at medium - high settings, i would not expect it to run the newest games at max settings at 1440p, but stuff like borderlands 2 should be fine, dirt3 should be fine, trine 2 should be fine, as well as theif.

Also to consider is the PSU, you would be advised to have atleast an 850WATT 80+ gold PSU to run those with enough headroom, but i would go with atleast 900 -1000Watt psu, while the 970x would only need a psu of like 550 watts. here is the psu tier list http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1804779/power-supp...

Hope some of this helped, but bottom line is up to you, if your psu is not powerful is enough you would have to get a new one, which would balance out the total cost of the upgrade if not make it even more expensive than the 970x, but then you also have to think about how you want to game, triple 1080p surround potential or high 1440p framerates, or single 1080p ultra on very high framerates, maybe making it to 144fps for high refreshrate monitors by running games on high or lower settings. In the end the choice is yours. It all depends on what you want to do with your ending setup.

Ok Jdogz

1) He isn't gaming
2) You only need ~650-750w for two 280x's.
3) Aftereffects can use CF IIRC.

However, the increase in one program might not be worth the cost. If 4D can't use GPU you might want to just go for a single 280x.
