I have got a GTX 970 recently so I think it is a good time for me to upgrade my current TV to a 4k TV. However, I have see forums mentioning current 4K (40 to 50 inch) TV usually only support 4.2.0 but GTX 970 can support 4.4.4 . So If i get a TV which is 4.2.0, it will be a waste of my GTX 970. As I am quite unfamiliar with electronic stuff, can someone be kind enough to explain to me what is the 4.4.4 and 4.2.0 about and what will be the actual difference? I cannot find anything from TV official websites that mention 4.4.4 or 4.2.0 in the specifications. Thank you in advance.

What is 4.4.4 and 4.2.0?

For 4K the only thing you need is:

- A 4K capable display
- A 4K capable GPU
- A 4K capable output

Right now the only outputs that support 4K at 60 Hz/fps are DisplayPort (DP) and HDMI 2.0 (i think DVI-D also supports it), which the GTX 970 has. If your display don't have DP or only have HDMI 1.4, you'll be limited to 4K 30 Hz/fps.
