GTX 970 Fan Issues

I installed my Zotac GTX 970 Amp! today and, aside from the fact that it's running crazy hot with high auto fan settings, the thing keeps running after I shut down.

It's connected via an 8-pin connector from my PSU (a six year old Thermaltake 750w) and a converted single 6-pin to 8-pin connector.

Just some questions about this:

The six-to-eight pin has two female slots for 6-pins. Are both supposed to be filled with the six-pin or is only one okay? (My psu only has one six pin and one 8 pin).

I'm running an ATX Asrock mobo and an i7, if that makes any difference. Thanks so much for the help.

A 6 pin PCIE cable carries 75 watts

And 8 pin cable carries 150 watts

So yes, to pull 150 watts you need two 6 pin connectors filled.

The card itself pulls in excess of 165 watts (measured)

Theoretically the GPU "should" be able to run (225 watts)

75w watts from slot
(1) 8 pin 150 watt connector

75w watts from slot
(2) 7 pin 75 watt connector

but that doesn't mean that's how Zotac designed its circuit board

I wont use adapters....the Molex ones absolutely not, the (2) 6 pin PCIE to 8 pin PCIE are Ok in a pinch as the load gets properly allocated but you don't have two 6 pins .....id recommend you upgrade the PSU before you damage the card
