Hey guys,

Am building a new gaming/productivity desktop and I'm wondering which CPU to go with.

I will be doing a lot of gaming, virtualization, compressing and uncompressing, some video converting and general computing

I'm asking if I should get fx 8350, 8370 or the i5 4670k or i5 4690k don't really want to invest to much into just the CPU

I've also been doing some research on next gen console ports favoring multi threaded.. Would AMD benefit more?

And lastely I don't play LoL, WoW or SC2.

Solution
I would go with the 4690k if I had to choose...

" I would go with a 4790 or 4790k if money wasn't a concern because games are starting to utilize HT which increases the thread count to 8"

What is your budget? A 4790K will be best or a 4790 if you do not want to overclock. DO NOT compare console CPUs to desktop CPUs, they have way different optimization and performance.

I have majority of the build I'm left with GPU CPU and mobo..

If I go Intel its with a z97-k from asus
If I go AMD its a m5a99x Evo r2.0

And the GPU I've decided with is an r9 280x for mantle and they are wicked cheap on ebay

Intel but go with the Z97 PC MATE as it is a cheap light motherboard with all the features you need at a really good price. But if you are willing to pay the price premium for Asus, go with them as they have great products.
