Hey all,
I'm looking to build a desktop in the $700-800 range. At first, the PC will be used to play movies (ripped to hard drive) on the living room TV, and will be used for some gaming. For now, those games are mostly RTS/strategy types, and games like Skyrim. However, I would like to start getting into PC shooters as well. It's fine to play those on lower settings for now, but I would like the ability to upgrade in the future to play on the higher settings.

I don't need a monitor, keyboard/mouse, or OS. I'm comfortable ordering from any major website, and have a friend that can pick up parts from Micro Center if necessary.

I would like to have the potential for dual screens in the future, and I need to have an HDMI out for movies. I do not need the price of this build to include a large hard drive for ripping movies...I'll take care of that separately.

I don't know much about recognizing what parts are compatible with each other, or what's best for the money, so I feel like asking for a build on here is probably my best option.

Thanks for any help.

This should be good for your needs. The processor will have to be bought at microcenter for this price, as you mentioned you can go to one. This should take care of all your media needs and play most games maxed out at 1080p.

the motherboard will allow for further upgrades
the 970 graphic card will work for quite a few years down the line and will work with dual/triple monitors comfortably.

I added it as other because the cpu is from microcenter. He says he can have a friend go there.

He did. He listed it as "other" at the bottom, since I'd have to get it at MC instead of ordering it
