Hello!
This Christmas, I have been debating on what to upgrade in my computer.
With the new GTX 900 series coming out, I was certain on buying a 970 4GB for an upgrade.
After learning the DayZ Standalone and Arma 3 are CPU-intensive games,(I play these games the most), I have no idea what to get or upgrade on anymore!
I have a YouTube channel where i upload gaming videos and with 20fps in cities it is hard to record in my favorite games.

Budget on Part: $400 -can vary but should be close.

Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 OC 2GB
PSU: Corsair Builder 600W 80+ Bronze
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-H77-DS3H ATX LGA1155
RAM: 8GB GDDR3
Storage: 125GB SSD, 1TB HDD
Case: Antec Three Hundred Two ATX Mid Tower

[My opinion:]
For a CPU, I heard an i7 4790k is very nice, and for GPU I would obviously get the GTX 970.
CPU Upgrade: Intel Core i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) $336.99
GPU Upgrade: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4GB $369.99

Any and all suggestions would be great! Thanks!

If your PC is making all the recording instead of an external recording device, the extra CPU threads will definitively help.

I recommend getting a Xeon, they are the cheapest way to get extra threads if you already have a discrete GPU.

Could an external video card such as the Elgato HD work well too? I heard it doesn't drop your frame rate at all like fraps does because the CPU is not being used. Then a GPU upgrade to the 4GB GTX 970 sounds like a good idea to me!

Another problem would be the GPU being a bad combination with the CPU; it would feel as if the CPU is lacking in performance and may not be able to keep up with the GPU.

Also, DayZ is a CPU-intensive game, from what I've read, so would I gain more from a new CPU or GPU?

Sorry for all the questions!

Your motherboard does not support overclocking, get the cheaper non "k" versions.

Sadly it does not support the i7 4790.

For you xeon processors with HT would be the best bet, they offer i7 performance for i5 price.

Make sure you have the mobo bios updated to newest version before swapping the cpu.

The best you can get is the Xeon E3-1240v2 ( basically a i7 3770 with no integrated graphics)
