I currently have and FX 8350 and its fine but just want something better. I game and use it as a personal workstation for video editing and 3D modeling. What is the real world difference in the i5 4690k and the i7 4790k as far as gaming and my animation work. Thanks for helping!

Im pretty sure you cannot add a intel cpu to a amd mobo socket. But from what I have read the I7 is really much better than the I5 for editing but the I7 will bring minimal added performance over the I5 when it comes to gaming. You have to ask yourself Do I really love editing that much to get an I7

I know it won't I will get a difference MOBO to go with it. Just not sure if the upgrade is worth it. I've read almost everywhere that the i5 and i7 get almost the same game performance. But in the muti tasking and such the i7 rocks the i5. Since its hyper threaded and all that jazz.

Well with a new mobo and I7 thats going to be a fair bit of cash I personally would not upgrade it. Depends how you are getting on with the system you have now and if it does not meet the requirements of what you want then upgrade it. It will be a improvement but taking into consideration the situation of switching to intel its going to be a bit costly for what you get. Though there is one posotive out of it you will have amd and intel for future use.

To summarize it get the I7 if your serious about your video things
