So i was going to build my new Intel core i5 4690k PC with a 970 but the only "good" one would be 389.00€ and a GTX 780 at cheapest would cost 339.00. (They are both windforce editions) So which one is better in price to performance? Because i don't want to spend 50 euros more just for like 3 FPS more.

Thanks in advance

In my opinion, the 970 is well worth the extra 50 Euros. It uses less power, creates less heat, supports newer directx and probably will be more supportive of future directx and driver platforms, and, probably gets as good or better performance than the 780. According to some testing sites it did as well or better than the 780 TI.

I think you are mixing it up with the 980.

The general stats are available online.
A general rule of thumb from CURRENT FRAMERATES lowest to best in the lineup...
Bog standard GTX970 < bog standard GTX 780 < Custom GTX970 < GTX780 custom (iChiLL etc) = GTX Titan/(Bog standard) GTX 780Ti < Custom GTX 780Ti (Asus CUII etc)= Bog standard GTX 980 < Custom GTX 980 < GTX Titan Z 12Gb model @ $3,000.

if you are going i5, you might suit looking at Yahoo auctions for a good un at 25% addtional saving at least.

The 970 should do everything you throw at it in standard 1080p gaming (except maybe WatchDogs at Ultra).
And the option to SLi should Always be considered.

970 saves you juice and heat in summer (but doesnt warm your room in winter).

A cheap 780 allows you to get an additional GTX650 for PhysX.
Whoosh................

Let me put it this way.

389Euro = GTX 970 = Excellent.

339Euro = GTX 780 + 50 Euro for PhysX card = 389Euro = better than Excellent.

No, I'm not.

If you go to the following link and look at the BF4 scores for Ultra@4K you will see the 970 beat the 780TI by two points.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/review-nvidias-gtx-970-is-the-gpu-bargain-of-the-y/1100-6422522/

This is only one example, and yes, I realize this is also only one result, but it does indicate the ability to stay neck to neck with the 780TI and occasionally score higher. It is, by far, a better option especially considering the price difference.

I imagine when some newer titles are released down the road that utilize features that the 780 TI doesn't support, but the 970 does, it will likely begin closing or widening that margin as well.

And that's the 780 TI. Against the 780, it wins, hands down in all listed titles.

There are a ton of slightly conflicting results out there.
HERE is an Example (My 780 Vs a 970);-

"Gaming Performance Comparison
In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Inno3D iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra DHS Edition are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB.

The GTX 970 has a 4 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 780, but the GTX 780 has 88 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 970. As a result, the GTX 780 exhibits a 91.6 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 970. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 970 has a 4 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Render Output Units than the GTX 780. This results in the GTX 970 providing 17 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards."

:)
He is going i5 if you look at his specs. And he says Nothing about anything really testing like Stereoscopic 3D.

So, as an i5 user we can assume he is probably going 1080p 120Hz or very near.

So, its an economic choice.

Go Cheaper with known 780 reliability or newer and negligable performance difference at 1080p for the additional money.

P.S.
My iChiLL GTX 780 3D Ultra is almost as good as any NVidia stock GTX 780Ti and there is the price saving to be used on other useful stuff like a Samsung SSD or a dedicated PhysX card.

At the end of the day, its a bit like comparing Lambrogini`s to Maseratis to Ferrari`s.
Its a personal choice. The roads are what matters.

P.P.S.
Even Linus agrees and benchmarked the two....

Exactly, although, sometimes when the road turns to 4WD only, you're in deep shit unless you're behind the wheel of something that can adapt.

"Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads."

Seriously, the newer cards are pretty amazing, and haven't really been out long enough yet for full driver optimizations.
That said, the 780 has 3GB vram while the 970 has 4GB vram. More and more games are becoming vram hogs, even when playing at 1080p. Of course, you can also start throwing mods on top of games from 2011 and find yourself neck deep in crashes at 2GB vram. Who only knows what's going to be necessary in the future.

If I had the money, I'd get the 970. Then again, I might hold out for the 970 with 8GB vram, to be honest. Sadly, my money is going into an i7 along with mobo and OS this year. It will be at least a year yet before I replace my graphics card.

I'm not sure about where you live, but the 970 is available here in the US for just US$330 via amazon.com. The cheapest 780 is US$430.
