Hello folks,

This is Chirag and I am a newbie here. I have very basic networking knowledge and have few concerns regarding the existing modem.

I was allocated ZTE modem router at the time of subscribing local broadband services. Currently this modem router is connected to my 1 smart TV (ideal most of the time), 3 smart phones (1 has heavy usage and rest 2 has moderate usage) and one laptop (heavy usage). I am facing some internet speed issue, I feel that the modem would be dated and hence it is not able to share the traffic between these devices. Is it true? Could the internet speed be increased by purchasing new modem router?

Also I have ASDL (phone cable) modem provided by the ISP so if I buy dual band router, is it possible to share internet from older modem to that dual band router (WAN port) and then to all my devices? If yes, will I face any packet loss?

FYI… I have 4 MBPS plan in India for home usage.

EDIT - On a second look, more ads show up so I'm removing your link.

You can't bridge internet connections that easy. That can only be done if you an ISP agree because of how much **** has to be done to make It happen. The data must be split in a special modem and sent to ISP, but it will still be the same speed because half a file doesn't work without the other half. So money equals speed.

Each device on your network has a default gateway where you supply a IP address or leave it on auto whateva. The point is computers an phones only ask one IP for request. That's where your special modem comes in which your never going to get. Not all ISP allow this special Dual Band internet your dreaming off. Think of this as RAID Drivers, 4 Hard drives taking on the load. where you just want 2.

Your local internet speed around the house an bedroom between friends in the house is 1000Mb per second. The internet speed coming in is no more then 2Mb per second. You should google ROOT SERVERS in your country. The speed outside your country isn't as fast as the speed from your bedroom to the lounge room. So just because you swap hardware that might not be the case.

You might be interested in buying a firewall of EBAY, one that's Hardware not Software. Then set Bandwidths on everyone else except you. That can help the network collion's you believe there is. I know how you feel, 10 people requesting 40gig. Now you all lag each other out!

Watch the language please. Thanks>
