Hi

Well I was planning to buy the following Rig:
i7 4790k
good z97 board
8Gb 1600Mhz (I already have 4GB 1600Mhz)
Evo 212 cooler
corsair 550w
R9 280X

Meanwhile I can also buy a laptop with following configuration:
i7 4500U,
8GB RAM,
AMD 8850 2GB,
1 TB hard disk

Well, My question is that how much difference is between these two in terms of performance.
I want to do high end gaming and my system will be running all the time.
I prefer Desktop but It would be good to have laptop which means I can carry it anywhere.
Please help me out guys.

It's really up to you though OP. If you want to be gaming all over the place, then the laptop is an obious decision to get. But if you want power while gaming stationary, a desktop is good for you. Laptops can NOT even touch the performance of a desktop PC that's built for gaming.

Comparing those specs, the laptop's components can't even get close to the desktop specs.

That laptop is not designed for super high end gaming. Please see the following link and scroll down for game benchmarks on the 8850M graphics included - http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8850M.87118....

The desktop will give you much better performance. Unfortunately with laptops, you pay the premium for it being portable and able to operate with a low power envelope. Looking at some of the benchmarks available and comparing it to your desktop system, it will likely perform 20 - 30 fps better in almost all titles at higher settings.

The performance difference will be huge. Laptop components are built for low voltage and low power, meaning they can be powered by a battery. At first glance, a laptop i7 and desktop i7 look very similar, but their real-world performance is miles apart. The same applies to graphics cards.

If you want high-end gaming, a desktop is the one to go for.
