Currently I own a 21.5" 1080p samsung monitor, and I want a second monitor. Should i get an ultra wide (i would get one that's probably 27 inch, MAYBE 29" but thats the limit), or just another 16:9 monitor?

I would use one monitor for gaming (fps, mostly) and streaming movies and stuff on the other.

More about : ultra wide

As someone who has had only two different multi-monitor setups, I would say the experience is much better when they are both the same size. It means that you don't have to have one primary monitor as well, they can muti-task which is handier than I thought. You can shift your chair a little and suddenly you can focus on the other monitor whereas with one bigger monitor you'll get distracted if any moving is going on.
Of course I must suggest there is the option to get two new big monitors. I would only recommend this if the bezel(distance between the edge of the screen and the edge of the monitor) of your current 21.5 inch monitor is very large.
