I've been playing with it and I don't think you can get less than 1700 but you can get close, certainly try reducing the motherboard like this:
I don't know the case price though.
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($397.00 @ Centre Com)
Motherboard: Asus H97-PLUS ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($128.00 @ Centre Com)
Memory: Kingston Fury Black Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($189.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Storage: Intel 530 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($75.00 @ Centre Com)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($65.00 @ PCCaseGear)

Power Supply: Corsair CX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($134.00 @ Centre Com)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer ($19.00 @ PCCaseGear)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($165.00 @ Mwave Australia)

750W PSU so you can add a 2nd gtx 970?
Why particularly the 4790K? For $100 less you can get the i5 4690K - just as good as the i7 for gaming.
Have you tried going through PartPicker?
Are you planning on overclocking the CPU? Can you use a non-k version (and H97 mobo)?
Do you need an OS too?
Try -
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($397.00 @ Centre Com)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($179.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($109.00 @ PCCaseGear)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($65.00 @ PCCaseGear)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card ($549.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Case: NZXT H440 (Orange/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($158.50 @ Centre Com)
Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Total: $1556.50

In that case perhaps consider a cheaper CPU like the other poster suggests. The i5 will be fine, the i7 would be too good for the 970 probably anyway and the i5 will work for any game.

so would you the i5 4690 can still do editing like adobe after effects , game well and make music ( through software cleanly without too much lag ?

You can grab everything off msy except the h440.
4790k= $395
Maximus Vii hero= $263
Asus strix 970=$535
Seagate barracuda 1TB=$62
Intel 520 series 120gb ssd=$74
Corsair RM750=$189
Kingston Hyperx fury blue= $175
For a H440 off pccase gear your looking at $160+shipping. You could get a nice fractal r4 for $135 off MSY, bringing the total to $1804.
If you can cut the price a bit by getting the gigabyte 970 for $519 and the z97-A for $189 bringing your total to $1736.
Now, if you are willing to go to an i5 you can get the 4690k (still a beast for gaming) for $275 bringing your total price to $1618, now if you are hell bent on a ROG board you can get the ranger at $214 bringing your price to $1643.

im not sure the h97 is a good model and sometimes its not about the K because in some cases it might just be for overclocking , but sometimes the k performs better even without the overclock
i might go for the 297 killer by asrock

Are you doing video editing. If not go the 4690k its so much cheaper here, then you can put more money into getting a h440 and a prettier mobo if you want to. MSY is the way to go if you live in a capital city or large rural centre her in aus. Their website lists all the z87 boards and the 4770k as "out of stock" But they are gone, will not ever be restocked otherwise you could have grabbed a non refresh haswell chip and saved a bit. Be careful with stuff that seems way cheaper than it should be, they are clearance items only avaliable at one or two stores usually, if you live near that store its great but if not you have to pay full price (or not get it at all because they usually do clearance on end of line products)

Dont get the killer, if your hell bent on a red board pull the cushions out of the couch, nick the change and spend the extra $16 on the maximus ranger

H97 is good. You just can't OC CPUs on it. But its cheaper.
If you go with a k CPU, get an ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 per http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mainstream-gaming-z...
There's been problems with Killer NICs. I'd steer away from them.

Yes but don't get the killer, if your getting it because its red get the ranger, the killer has upward facing sata ports that wont look that nice and they have weird issues with the network interface. You are better off with an extreme 4 than a z97 killer but if you must have red go the ranger.

You started on a budget though. The Ranger is $219 at PCCG. Extreme 4 is $179Problem with pccg is shipping costs but it is an option.
how much is it usually
Depends where you live, there's a calculator on the my basket page. My advice is to buy as much as you can from MSY as the price goes up as the amount of stuff you ship goes up. Cases are the most expensive to ship

How does that come to 1900? it shouldn't be near that on msy, if you want to buy your stuff elsewhere thats fine but im telling you MSY is the best place to get stuff if they carry what you want
