ok so lets take these 2 cards for example
780 ti

980
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_i...

ok so from every single FPS game comparison I've seen. the 980 out does the 780ti. although not by much (from what I've seen). but why?
the 780 ti. has more
cuda cores
same memory clock speed
its 384 bit compared to 256 bit.
more power efficient

the clock speeds are only 100mhz different give or take.

More about : 980 card good

You can not compare specs from different generations and expect to make sense of it.

Basically different technology.

You can read this article for example: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-...

well yes you can. it would be wires better. they may have invented more powerful chips. they may have invented more power efficient technology etc. They may have invented the software to what what it was told faster and more efficiently.

Those arn't really considered specs.

But yes, in general they improved the CUDA cores to do MORE with less. Obviously not that simple, but I can't elaborate on HOW it was done, I am sure its a trade secret. :)

i mean i know they weren't really specs. but just say back in the ol' days of CPU's. if amd released a quad core and intel released a dual core. then i would ask how?
and someone would say maybe hyper threading and i would say wow. i didn't know that.

and maybe it would've been a similar situation here. like maybe they released some new software or some new way to render everything using a new technique called "magicstar101" that i hadn't heard of
