I have an old laptop that has finally died. The MoBo died and is not worth repairing. The HDD was manufactured in Feb 2001 and is an ATA - not a Serial ATA (SATA). I'm looking for a USB adapter but all I can find is the 7+15 for SATA HDDs and nothing for a 43 PIN ATA.

Anyone got an idea or a recommended kit I could find online for purchase?

Thanks!

Buy an external hard drive enclosure that supports 2.5-inch IDE-ATA hard drives.

(IDE is the term commonly used these days when referring to the now discontinued hard drive type, as opposed to SATA drives).

This is the kind of thing you need: http://www.amazon.co.uk/DIGIFLEX-HARD-DRIVE-CADDY-ENCLO...

An enclosure will be more reliable and look tidier than just an adapter cable contraption.
