Hi, I'm having problems with my computer because it randomly restarts when playing on random games, i recently wanted to try and play fallout new Vegas again but low and behold it restarts pretty much straight away when i load the auto save i have just created. this reminded me of something similar with another game i got a while back age of wonders 3 which while in the create a leader it would restart the computer sometimes to just a black screen and do nothing until i turn the power off from the back. and a few other games as well which i can't remember right now. but its not because anything is new as old games cause it as well. i can play games like rust and the sims 4 without incident.

this is getting really frustrating as i just want to be able to use my computer properly again. I have already tried flashing the bios which hasn't worked, i have run a chkdsk scan which found nothing, and also there have been no logged blue screens since 26th June 2014. i have even uninstalled and re installed my graphics drivers and also the nvidia geforce experience. I have had problems with my ram before but that has been sorted out by taking out the faulty ram as i started with 16GB and am now down to 8GB.

My system specs are as follows
CPU: AMD Phenom II Black X6 1090T 3.2GHz
GPU: Nvidia Zotac Geforce 480GTX Amp. 1.5GB
RAM: 8GB Corasir Dominator 1333MHz
HDD: 2TB Samsung HD203WI
MOBO: MSI 790FX GD70
PSU: 1KW
OS: Win7 64bit

If you need any more information please ask and i will do my best to get it.

It may be a driver issue uninstall the current drivers clean them with guru3d drive sweeper http://www.guru3d.com/content-page/guru3d-driver-sweepe... and install the latest drivers.

check your ram with memtest.

try using a different PSu is possible.

check the CPu and GPu temps.

The first rule of engineering is that if you can't reproduce a problem you can't be expected to solve it.

So you say it only happens when playing games, you could monitor the CPU temperature or even set limits in the BIOS to get the fans to kick in earlier.

You say you re-installed the graphics drivers, did you check the manufacturers website to see if there are any later ones?

If it were me I would run exhaustive diags on the PC for several days to see if I could reproduce, if this is not set it off then chances are it is a driver compatibility issue.

Either way, the next stage is to swap out components one at a time and repeat the gaming to see if it still happens.

If you are overclocking switch it back to normal, then try swapping the ram modules around and/or replacing them with some borrowed.

I suspect that it is the graphics card or the graphics card drivers.

I'll try the memtest and get back to you. also its not the temps as my coputer is cold when it starts up fallout and barely gets going when it restarts. i dont have a spare psu powerful enough to run my computer or even a spare for that matter.

I the problem persists i have tried it over and over to see if i can get any further also after each thing i do to see if it solves the problem. i don't overclock my hardware its still as it was from factory settings. i have also installed and uninstalled the graphics drivers a few times to the latest ones as this has been happening for a while.

Does you computer reboots when your system is in idle state, without using any kind of application?
As Ancient suggest anything can happen.

No its fine when idling, or even surfing the internet or just basic operations when on the desktop

I think, then you need to check on your games, which is causing the issue? May be you remove and load one by one game, check which game crashes your system.

its completely random which games crash my computer it's older games like fallout and newer ones like age of wonders another to add to that list is now state of decay. yet games like sims 4 and rust will play without incident.
