Hi,
I'm trying to see to build my first computer from scratch and I'm already lost only on the component choices. My goals is to have a gaming computer that would stay at the top for years to come and be able to work correctly when the 4K revolution arrive.

Is this build would be fine (Click Here)? Or is it maybe also a waste of money on some components ? I was thinking to plug the computer on a 40" TV screen and mainly on a 27" 2560x1440 WQHD. I'm also in designing so I'm also using 2D/3D Software with a Cintiq wacom will it be alright ?

Thanks for your help

It's a nice build. I do recommend the Gigabyte GTX 970 gaming G1 over MSI one. It is faster.

Looks solid, however I don't know your budget but for 4K gaming a 980 might be a bit more futureproof. Other than that it seems alright, you will need the i7's hyperthreading in those programs, and the extra ram will sure come in handy.

Trying to build a long lasting PC is a futile effort. Hardware changes very quickly, and games are becoming more and more demanding; build a computer to suit your needs now, and upgrade if necessary.

That said, that is a solid build, the 970 is a great GPU, and the i7 should last you a while. I would recommend a better CPU cooler, perhaps the Noctua D15 so you can get the most of out that CPU. You aren't going to get great FPS at 4k with a single 970, but SLI should do a decent job. You could upgrade to a 980, then if you SLI in the future you would be better suited for 4k.

I think a 3-Way SLI on 970 would be faster than 2X980. The expenditure on both would be same.

I wouldn't go with 3-way SLI on socket 1150, there's only so many lanes. On LGA2011, it would be better idea in my opinion.

Thanks for all the answer, oh I forgot to said that it would be with 2x 970 SLI

So @Transmaniacon you don't think it is possible to have a 1 or 2 year futur proof game computer even with that kind of build ?

1 or 2 years is very reasonable, but from your initial post, I took "years to come" as a longer span.

Oh no at a really maximum span would be to me 4 years but at this time it would be more having the game running at low or average settings not something better than that

This will work well, and you can always OC to get the most out of your PC.

Well I'm new to this so if I'm able to build the computer and make it work without anything like OC as a first step it will be a big winner since I don't know a lot in hardware and in OC even less ;)

Yeah it will work well without overclocking, but it's nice to have that option for down the road to get a little more life out of the computer.

As long as you build your computer on a non-cloth surface like a table or counter, and are not standing on carpet, it should be fine. They are inexpensive though, and could be worth a little peace of mind for a first time builder.

Gigabyte GTX 970 gaming G1 or MSI GTX 970 4GD5T OC Graphics Cards ? Is Gigabyte GTX 970 gaming G1 SLI-way too ?

The 970 runs cool and quiet, so really any version is probably going to work fine. Pick the one that you think looks good, I generally stick to Gigabyte/Asus/MSI.

Well I need to found a Graphic Card that are still available or they will be all available soon ? :s

Is there a difference between MSI GTX 970 4GD5T OC and MSI GTX970 Gaming 4G ? I don't think except for the red design ?

These cards are very popular right now, you might need to wait a little longer to get the one you want. Even a basic reference cooler is a fine choice though, it can be overclocked, and will still keep the 970 cool.

Ok So If I found available MSI GTX970 Gaming 4G I can take them over the MSI GTX 970 4GD5T OC it won't make any difference ?

Yeah it will work fine, you can still OC it to match the faster aftermarket versions.

Hey thanks for all the answers mainly from @Transmaniacon I'm thinking about the monitor which one to get.
First I was going for an Asus PB278Q but then I've tried to look at monitors more precisely to see what define a good monitor for gaming and from what I understood the Asus ROG Swift PG278Q is really better mainly because of the framerate (144hz vs 60hz) and the use of the G-Sync technology ? In France the difference in price is just 250€ which isn't really much if the performance are so much better than what said. Is it really better than the Asus PB278Q by far ? or it is more a psychological effet ?

It will offer a smoother response, but you need to have a high FPS in games to get the full advantage. It would definitely be a good monitor if you ever plan to add a second 970. Otherwise I would probably just save some money and get the PB.

Since I'm going from the start SLI 970 I guess I've got my answer. I've begin to relook also CPU Cooler like you suggested Noctua D15, how do I know he is not too bulky for the case ? since from what I understand he is in the top dog CPU cooler category so there isn't really any question about the performance of it.

I have the same question but this time on GPU how do you know that a card will fit inside a specific case ? I've seen that the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Gaming WindForce 3X is available but I'm not sure it is the best for SLI and how to know the two will fit correctly inside the Cooler Master HAF XB EVO and on the motherboard ?

Also from what I've seen its getting a bit complicated with the fans (not specific to Noctua I mean on the computer) that need to be oriented in specific way to have better cooling with them by taking air in and out at specific place ?

The CM case supports a cooler up to 180mm, the D15 is 165mm with the fan, no isssue there.

It also supports very long GPUs, to which the 970 will fit. That is a very roomy case.

Generally you want positive pressure so it helps keep dust out. Typically, the front and bottom fans are intake, and the rear and top are exhaust. That case will do a good job with cooling, and those 970s run cool so you won't have much issue with SLI.

Ok cool thanks for all the answers. I'm just trying to understand all the things sorry if there are newbie question ;) .
So I'm better with D15 and Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Gaming WindForce 3X will give even more cooling which will be help with the SLI configuration even if they are already fit for SLI it won't hurt and for OC it will still be a plus if I do it one day.

Also I've been looking about the screen/computer connection and wasn't really able to understand the difference between the DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI and which one is the best connection to use between, I was thinking that would be the HDMI but after some research I'm seeing that DisplayPort and DVI would be better ?

Ok I'm not founding anymore the XFX PRO850W Core Edition Power Supply ATX 850 Energy Star Certified Power Supply in France Store what can I replace it with for PSU ?

I would use the display port cable for the monitor.

Look for the EVGA G2 850 watt PSU, it is an even better unit than the XFX and usually around the same price. If not, something from SeaSonic or a Corsair AX PSU would work well.

Ok I wasn't able to found any EVGA PSU so here it is the final build. Is it good ? I took Ballistix Sport VLP since it is smaller and it is in stock I'll take the normal one if they are in stock when I take them I don't think the low profile is of any issue ? Not to much waste money on overrate components ?
