Hi all i have 2 computers in the house both desktops.

A week or so ago theses computers went from having a perfect internet connection to having a connection that works when it feels like it. For example i am currently on one of the said PC and the net has been working fine for an hour or so, At some point thou the net will drop. When it goes im checking troubleshooting and connection status and the only message i get sometimes is: Your computer is configured correctly but the device or resource is now responding.

I have used CMD to release renew clear win sock clear dns and everything this made no ifference. Also resetting the router or PC makes no difference. This is on ethernet connection only not wifi (wifi works fine) We are using homeplugs but have ruled this out as they were working fine for weeks originally and we have taken them out and also moved the computers to right by the router and put the ethernet directly between the router and the PC.

The internet is plusnet (broadband not fibre)
The router is a plusnet thompson

It will be best to rule out problems by process of elimination, since you may have a couple problems that may be indirectly related to your actual loss of Internet access.

Have you checked the status lights on the modem that indicate the link to your ISP? There may be lights labeled ADSL, Broadband, and Internet, and they should be steady on, not flashing.

If all lights on the modem indicate a normal connection, the you should test with one PC directly connected to the modem/router. Disconnect all other wired and wireless devices. If the connection is still not working, then test with another wired PC to rule out a problem with the first. Make a note of any specific error messages. Post back with any details.

Really guys no one has even a possible answer?

Ok update: new router was sent to us which we replaced the old one with and boom internet worked. been working fine until last night when, oh look there we go stopped working again. i need help guys and gals please someone come up with something

In the original post i said the WiFi works, well now the wifi only works on a tablet and phones it no longer works on my Toshiba laptop. the only thing which was done yesterday before the issue arrived was: i did a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate on my laptop, the WiFi still worked as drivers were auto installed. then did windows update through the genuine update program and was told i had over 270+ updates some important some optional. i chose to do every single one at one, as this was such a large amount i then connected the laptop via Ethernet to provide more stability. they took ages to download even on a wired connection and finally starting installing,

I left to go out then when i returned home the laptop had crashed (was on WiFi at this point not wired as the Ethernet was being used elsewhere so i went back on WiFi as downloads were complete.) Upon restarting my laptop it went in to system recovery/repair mode. after almost an hour the laptop crashed again. i rebooted and instead of choosing to use repair i chose to boot in to windows normally. this finally worked after around 45 min of sitting on a black screen.

sorry this post is long but im going crazy here trying to work this out so if i give as much info as possible maybe someone can help?

If the PC does work, then you may have a device that is causing access problems. This could be due to a software virus or an app that is using a high amount of bandwidth. You may want to turn on one device at a time to find if a particular one is causing loss of service. That may be more difficult to find but there are tools available to help resolve the problem.

Hopefully this will be a start in getting things fixed. Any other details that you can provide will help significantly.
