Are cases absolutely necessary?

I'm building a pc, and a friend told me about caseless pc's, which is ludicrous, but apparantly its a thing, and I've been considering it, but I'm just not sure how it would work, where the power on and off buttons are, how neat it would be, and how dangerous for my parts it would be. Basically, I'm just wondering if it's practical.

Edit: By the way, I'm sorry if this paragraph is botched, or if it seems inappropriate, but I'm in a hurry, I'll have to be leaving my computer soon, but I'm just curious on this whole system

More about : cases absolutely

Look up test benches. There are a couple cases out there with an open design, and it's a fine option, but you just need to make sure you pay attention to cooling.

I don't think it is a practical solution.

A computer will work without a case. It will be more vulnerable to dirt and spills and accidental knocks. Technically, RF output must be kept below a certain level, and a metal case acts to shield much of the RF leakage.

So, is there something special i should be concerned about when it comes to cooling?

You typically won't have mounts for fans or radiators, and a traditional case allows you to vent out hot air and bring in cool air to keep things running well.

Typically bench cases are used to test components, and not for long term use, I think it's a cool idea but not very practical.
