Hello,

I need some help with my setup. I have a large 2 story home and my router (Asus RT-AC66R) is on the bottom floor in one corner of the house, and the bedrooms upstairs on the other side of the house get basically no wireless signal. So I purchased a TP-Link AV500 powerline extender to fix the issue.

I was able to get the range extender paired and the base is plugged directly into a wall outlet. When I plug in the receiver it knocks my computer offline which is about 15 feet from the router on a wireless connection. My computer still shows a full signal from my router. So I moved the receiver up to the rooms where I need the signal extended, and the wifi signal is great now. However as soon as I plug it in my primary computer (again downstairs 15 feet from the Asus router) keeps losing it's internet connection and I get kicked off line, again despite having a full signal from the Asus router. The minute I unplug the tp link receiver, everything works fine again.

I'm fairly good with wireless tech, but I'm flat out stumped here. Any troubleshooting ideas you guys have would be greatly appreciated? We have some family coming to stay with us that work from home so I need to ensure a stable connection for all of us. Thanks in advance!

You may need to elaborate a bit. What is the exact model number of the TP-Link (e.g. TL-WPA4220).

Is it only your computer that loses service, or do all wireless devices lose service? Do any wired devices work?

Are there any specific error messages, either in your browser or connection status?

Apologies, its the TL-WPA4220 kit that I have.

I'll have to test other devices, right now I can only verify my laptop. There are no error messages, basically it just loses the internet connection. I can tell right away because I run Outlook on an exchange server for work and as soon as the connection drops Outlook lets me know. It's odd, because I still will maintain full wireless signal the whole time, it's almost acting like someone unplugged the modem but left the router on. The connection drops off for about 30 seconds and then comes right back on for a few minutes, then the same thing again. Trying to refresh the browser pages just says I have no internet connection. I run windows 7, and normally if the internet goes out and you still have a wifi signal you'll see a little exclamation point over the wifi saying no internet, but the computer seems to get the signal back before that happens. Meantime the TP-Link receiver upstairs works uninterrupted, so it seems to be specific to the router.

I'll test an ipad on it in the morning as well and report back. I don't have anything wired, but I can run an ethernet cord from the router to my laptop in the morning and see if it behaves the same or is specific to the wireless signal. I will stay that when I did the firmware update I had to turn off the wireless in the laptop and run off the TP Link receiver and that worked without any interruptions.

I updated the firmware on the TP link and it worked for a few minutes, then went back to the same issues. I've tried 8 different outlets in the house, from downstairs right near the router to up in the bedrooms where I need the signal, and same issue no matter what.

I am having a similar issue. The wired connections are excellent, no problems at all. However the wifi extender is not so good. If I ping the connection repeatedly from my phone (say every second) the response is good for 30 seconds or so and then the pings are lost for the next 30 seconds or so and this is repeated. This make the wifi connection unusable. I have emailed TP link so I will wait and see, but it feels like a sale on Ebay to me.

I have updated the firmware and set them as a static IP reserved on the router. What else is there to try??
