Not sure what is wrong with this laptop. I've never had this happen and I'm lost how to solve it. It is skipping the switch as soon as I plug the router in. Going from a 1gb connection to a 100mbit connection. Which is terrible when I'm trying to transfer large game files, etc.

So, anyone have a solution? This is the only laptop doing it. It's a sony vaio.

As resetting laptop resolved problem which is clear the problem was not at hardware side if u face that problem again run command prompt as admin and try these commands:

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

after executing commands restart system.

the laptop was connecting to the switch. The router was also connected to the switch. When I connected the router to the switch the lan network on the laptop would change from the switches 1gbit to the routers 10mbit (not 100mbit actually).

I will note this laptop was completely reset recently and this issue is no longer occurring. However, I'd like to see if it can be uncovered as to possibilities?

The possibility of the problem may be due to the mis managed settings of installed vpn software on your laptop as it installs its own virtual network adapter local area network having speed of just 10Mbps as switch it self has no network and dhcp so on connecting router when the laptop connected to internet it switched to that virtual network adapter whenever the problem occurs do check the system's network adapter should be active not the virtual one.

This was actually the only computer without a vpn installed. I can confirm that it wasn't connecting to an alternative network adapter. I checked the one and disabled and re-enabled to see if would affect anything.
Even more I can recall that it gave me a 40mbit connection over wireless.
