Any special setup for SSD's?

So about 4 years ago I built a comp, and installed 2 OCz SSD's...and had them both fail within 8 months. Had a local tech guy tell me that SSD's are unreliable because you can only read/write to them so many times, and they are easily corruptible etc...

I just built a new system, and installed a 120GB intel SSD to boot from..is there anything I can do to make it last longer? or do you just install and use like a normal HDD.

Thanks!

Ocz ssds had some MASSIVE reliability issues a few years back and your experience was typical. But dont use it like a normal hard drive only save your programs and windows to in and save data on a regular hard drive. SSDs have a limited number of write cycles before they deteriorate so saving data to it is not preferable.

That's actually totally bizarre. Should never have happened. Tech guy was clueless.
The only thing I'd recommend is look up how to set up AHCI on your motherboard. You may have to install windows differently, I forget the exact process. Plenty of tutorials/guides on how to do it though. It will allow you to use the full capability of the SSD. Shouldn't have any effect whatsoever for the life of the disk, but again, they should NEVER fail that quickly.

One thing that may help is to remember to keep a minimum of 10% of the drive space free for optimal performance (over-provisioning). The drive should have come with software which will allow you to set up over-provisioning that is providing the drive is set up in AHCI.
