I've been looking forward to upgrading my computer's GPU since I feel like it's getting rusty for this gen's games, but I've been also wondering if maybe I'll have some trouble regarding my current CPU and the next GPU I wanna adquire which is a PNY GTX 680 4GB.

System Specs:
Motherboard: Asus P7H55-M LX
CPU: QuadCore Intel Core i7-870, 3433 MHz (26 x 132)
Memory: 1x Kingston 4GB DDR3-1333 (667 MHz) and 1x Mushkin 4GB DDR3-1333 (667 MHz)
GPU: MSI N570GTX (MS-V257) Twin Frozr III

Thanks for your attention.

You have a quad core i7 running at 3.4GHz. Not too different than my own personal quad core i5 running at stock 3.4 GHz, so you'll be good the for some time with most games.

8Gb of 1333 is not optimum for gaming, but honestly it's good enough not to really be noticeable.

Gpu. This is where you start really dropping the games. It's not that the card is dated (which it is slightly) but it just plain lacks the power to handle the intense graphics put out by newer games at higher settings and still maintain good frames.

If you have a good 550w+ psu I'd recommend a gtx 770. With the huge price drops due to the gtx 970, 980 release, you can get a 770 for the same or lower price than a AMD r9 280x, somewhere around $220-$240.
A gtx 760...

A gtx 760 would work as well, the 770 is about as much as the cpu can realistically handle.
