Hey,

I have an old crummy laptop which dual boots Windows 7 (32 bit) and ubuntu (64 bit). I also have built a new desktop to which I would like to install Windows 8 (64 bit). I've bought a copy through my university webstore. I have no optical drives. I'm basically asking - how to do this via USB? See today I followed the naive steps, using my Windows 7 to download the ISO file and create an installation flash drive. I then went on and installed Windows 8 on my new desktop.... but it was the 32 bit version.

So first question: how to delete 32-bit Windows 8 from the desktop I just built? If it makes a difference, I have a 840 Evo. Is it true it's not wise to format an SSD? I hear rumours...

Second question: how do I create an installation drive for 64-bit Windows? I would appreciate answers for how to do it either using 32-bit Windows 7 or with ubuntu. But the default naive way didn't work - the iso file ended up creating an installation drive for 32-bit windows 8.

No, this is the problem, when I did this inside my 32-bit Win7 OS there was no option to create 64-bit.

Windows 8 installation process won't give you the option for 64-bit if you have a 32-bit system. That is why I said to do it on your desktop.....
