Try this:
1. Go into control panel - click on mouse and switch to a left hand button. Then switch it back to a right-hand button.

2. Slightly lift the button at the ends using a pin or anything and blow the compressed air inside it and also at its sides.

3. Try removing the mice in device manager and reboot and let them reinstall.

4. Boot the the computer and at boot hit F12 and run diagnostics on the touchpad. If you are unable to run diags then download the diagnostics iso from the Support drivers page and create a bootable diagnostics cd. Hit F12 and choose boot to cd and run diags on the touchpad. If it fails in diags then you will need to buy another palmrest. One last ditch effort would be to reseat the touchpad cable.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice...

1) Didn't work, both still bring up menu

2) no compressed air, but the button clicks fine

3) Didn't work

4) F12 was just startup repair??? F8 listed startup repair, syst. restore, syst. image recovery, win. memory diagnostic, command prompt

Startup repair found nothing, system restore was successful but didn't help, will try system image recovery, but didn't create an image... Don't even know how, memory diagnostic didn't find anything, and I have nothing to look for in cmd, except demanding it fix itself...

Short of taking the laptop apart, I don't know what else to do... Windows wanted to do 14 updates, that didn't fix... Malware bytes took nearly 30 minutes for a flash scan, normally a couple of minutes...

Something has got me, and is avoiding detection...
