Can I safely convert a MBR HDD to GPT?

Hi,
I have a nearly 3-year old Lenovo B570 (Intel i3 edition), and it is running OEM Windows 7 x64. I wanted to try Windows 10, so I chucked it into a virtual machine, but I, wanting to muck around with it a bit more, decided to try and dual-boot it. So, I set up a partition (30GB), loaded the ISO on a DVD, got to the install menu, and it tells me "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."

How can I check if my PC is EFI (I tried msinfo32, but the "BIOS mode" line is missing (naturally), and Lenovo doesn't seem to supply any info on it (or maybe I just missed it). Can (and how) I convert my disk to GPT without losing data or completely messing up my PC (the drive I want to use is my Primary, and only, drive)?
Thanks

If you want to install Windows to an MBR drive, tell it to boot off the disk in Legacy mode. Otherwise, delete all partitions and then create a new one, and Windows will create a new GUID partition table (GPT).

However, before doing any messing with partitions, you should have a complete backup of all data on the drive, even if you don't expect the operation to delete anything.
