Hi guys
I just bought a new WD 1TB hard disk to use as secondary in my desktop which already has a 500GB seagate. The new drive shows up in my BIOS and device manager but the problem is, it's not showing up in disk management. So i can't do anything to it and it's just sitting there. I'm using Windows 8 Pro 64 bit and my mobo is P8H61-M LE R2.0. Please help me out. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the community, Aur0ra!

I'm sorry you encounter such issues with your new WD drive.
I'd suggest to check and update your SATA drivers. The problem appears to be in the drivers which Windows sometimes refuses to install automatically for additional storage. Also I'd check the SATA ports and swap cables, it should get recognized in the Disk management.
What is the model of your WD Drive? Can you take a screenshot of your Disk management, please?
Another way to format the drive is using Command prompt:
> Type "diskpart" to open the diskpart.exe utility
> Type "list disk" in diskpart
> Type "select disk (Whatever disk number you are selecting, e.g. 1)
> Type "det desk" to get the details of the disk to make sure it is the one you want.
> Type "clean all" to perform a re-format of the entire drive. Takes about 2.5 hours for a 1TB drive.

Hope this helps you. Keep me posted though! :)

Hi and thanks for the quick reply SuperSoph_WD
Can you tell me how to check and update my SATA drivers according to my mobo please. And yes, i've already swapped the cables and ports. These are my device manager and disk management screeshots. I tried the cmd method too, No luck whatsoever, the WD drive is not on the list there too. Here are the screenshots of my device manager and disk management.

You can download your SATA drivers from your mobo's website. Simply google your mobo model and you should be able to get the drivers from the product's webpage.
I would also recommend to try plugging the HDD in another computer and see if it gets detected there, so we can start ruling out what might be the cause of this.
If it works on another computer, I'd suggest to simply partition and format it there and afterwards plug it in your machine.
If it doesn't work, I'd advise you to contact WD tech support and RMA the drive, so you can get a replacement!

Really sorry for the issues you are facing!
Hope this helps and keep me posted!

Alright i connected the WD drive to my old desktop which running Windows 7 ultimate 64bit and it shows up just fine on the disk management. Like you suggested, i formatted and partitioned the drive , assigned labels. Then i reconnect it to my current desktop and voila~ it shows up in my computer and ready to use. Guess my mobo SATA controller messed up and it's notorious for it as far as i've researched about it online lol.
Anyway Thanks for helping me get through this and suggestions, Appreciate it!
