Hi everyone.

I recently moved my Wi-Fi router and modem to my first floor where it use to be in the second. I needed hard wired internet access on the first floor, and it was the easiest way to go about that.

I now need internet access to the second floor with one of my computer towers. It does not have a Wi-Fi card in it. The connection doesn't have to be super fast (my isp is 30mbps dl) I just need basic access for email, software updates, web browsing, ect.

Is this usb unit here what I need to gain Wi-Fi access from my wireless router? The router is a lunksys E3000. Not sure if that matters or not.

Thanks in advance!

I could not get the link to work for me, just took me to newegg without a specific product.

Anyways......

if you have the linksys E3000 it is a N based router. You can go with any G or N usb but I recommend using a N level due to the fact G is outdated and is not much cheaper than a N one these days. It doesn't matter the manufacturer (i prefer netgear or linksys) due to the standard protocal for the wireless is the same (not propetary). If this is a PC and the electrical wiring is good you can also do a home plug possilby if the signal is not good where you need to put it.

If you are in doubt and can spend a little extra it might be worth going to a brick & mortar store so that if it doesn't work the way you want (most now only have 15 days to return) you can return and try again.

Thanks for the reply! I do believe this unit is N based. I knew that much about the Wi-Fi stuff, but I wasn't sure if this was what I needed. The last time I looked for a Wi-Fi antenna through usb, they where between $40 and $90. I guess that was ages ago, as a lot of them are now between $10 and $40.

I think the signal is solid enough that I can get access to it from the around floor. I have tablets and phones that pick up both the 5ghz and the 2.4ghz signals just fine. Solid strength on 2.4 band. The tghz can be spotty, but like I said, I'm looking to just use basic web stuff on the unit. Nothing super bandwidth heavy.

then you should be fine with almost any recongnized unit (manufacture that is). I assume your router supports 2.4 and 5 ghz so that is a plus incase it gets slow on one freq you could swich to the other as long as the usb is dual band also.

also, check the package contents....some are just the usb adaptor and some come with a usb extention dock of sorts so that you can plug it in but place it on top the the desk or cabinet or whatever near you instead of sticking out the back or front of the pc
