Browsers can't connect to sites on the internet. Card is good, can ping other machines on the LAN, can ping internet site's IPs, have reset Winsock. Ran anti-virus/malware, system OK. Ideas?

Sounds like a DNS issue. You are not resolving domains to IP addresses. Try resetting your modem/router first.

Reset the modem/router/Ethernet Router first, Then use Ethernet/Modem/Internet (which is faster), If you have BROADBAND, use Broadband.

After following these steps, You'll open the browser and search the websites like google.com, facebook.com, tomsguide.com, or so on.

If your problem still persists, Reinstall Windows in DVD, Reinstall Google Chrome, Reconnect to Internet and open your browser which is Google Chrome.

the router is fine. I have other computers that are not having a problem. I believe it is isolated to this machine, possibly a port issue

Have you tried flushing your DNS? Run a command prompt then type ipconfig /flushdns.

If that doesn't work, you can configure your modem/router to use something like google DNS instead of whatever your ISP provides.

already did, and tried both Open and Google Public without success. That's why I'm reaching out. I am stumped.

Interesting, have you tried putting the IP for a site in to the browser and see if you can get there?

That should take you to tomshardware.com...I'm curious of that works.
