Hey all and thank you in advance for any help.

As the title says, I am currently running a Q6600 setup that I have overclocked to 3.2 GHz.

I have been upgrading my system slowly over the last 6 years or so but it really needs a major overhaul.

Here is what I currently have and want to keep:

XFX 550W PSU which is new.
MSI HD7850 OC edition with 2GB
CoolerMaster ATX case and fans
Arctic Freezer 7 CPU cooler
Several hard drives and SSD

So I need to replace my CPU, motherboard and RAM. My budget is £150 ish as it is a gf gift for my birthday so not much headroom there.

My first plan was to buy the Gigabyte Z97 board (which is around £58 at dabs.com) and get a G3258 and overlock that. That would leave me with about £40 for RAM.

Are there better options than that setup? I would like to upgrade in the future so that's why I went for the cheaper CPU now and better motherboard. I also don't know much about good RAM so any advice there is appreciated.

Thank you

Yes, there better options at that budget.

From the red team you can get a Athlon X4 860K Kaveri, which is right now the best 4-core offering from AMD. Also it can be OC easily, it's unlocked.

Thank you for the feedback Brunostako. Didn't even consider an AMD build.

If my budget was £150 for just the motherboard and CPU without the ram, what would be the best options? I might be able to get some ddr3 from a friend. Thanks
