Guys i own a 1080p monitor but i am afraid that my gpu will not be able to provide decent framerate in games at that reso. If i use 1600*900 resolution on a 22 inch monitor whose native reso is 1080p...will the games look too bad??

This depends on the screen.

Since the pixel size is fixed, the screen or video card has to deal with the scaling. It does not always look great on text, but for games it may not be as bad.

This image is an example of different scaling setups(zoomed in to show detail). The first one is native(zoom with no scaling), the others are various forms of scaling.

Thank you for your time :)  , however the native reso of a 20" monitor is 1600*900..and mine is only 22 inches in size...how big do u think the difference will be? if its that much noticeable then i can always get a 900p monitor at a very cheap rate (( plenty of 2nd hand one or two months old dead cheap monitors available here)). so is that going to be the better thing to do?

Text tends to look more blurry.

It is hard to say because all screens are different.

I will try to capture you an actual image from a monitor when I get a chance.
