Hi Everyone :)

So I built my own computer back in March, here it is: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/Xj6hP6

- So maybe a month after building it, I overclocked my CPU to 4.0Ghz, testing different settings, running Prime95 and find that that speed was what I was most comfortable with. I then had no problems running that for the next few weeks! (Keep in mind, I also applied the same settings to my brothers PC, he has all the same components except for the mobo.)

- After them few weeks I had to move house and had to bring the PC into my bedroom and it was way too noisy for me to sleep so I had to disable the overclock. (My brother still runs the same settings to date.)

- But now 3/4 months later, I want to bring the overclock back, so now when I overclock using the same settings, my PC turns on, turns off for 1/2 seconds, turns back on and then boots normally! This didn't happen before at all and the settings are perfect, even under Prime95!

Could anyone help shed some light on this for me? Would appreciate it :)  !!

Alan.

I guess that's why they most times have a disclaimer that states overclocking is at own risk ............

Well I just reset the BIOS to default and now it's perfect again, but I still want to be able to overclock.

Looking for a more detailed answer on this.

Something may have stressed, e.g.? Plus how can the problem be occurring when overclocked and the go away when it's not overclocked? The fact it's just 1/2 seconds indicates it can't be too much of a problem, or something power related?.... Because I have read much worse with people's computers taking 7/8 seconds. There is no solid answer yet, and obviously there is one besides "risk".... when nothing ever went wrong nor did I ever get an error stress testing the machine, I went extremely slowly and never passing 4.0Ghz, which ran perfectly for me before....
