Storage Spaces Question

I'm building a PC with a Formula VII MB, a 128 GB SSD boot drive, and 4, 1 TB HDD's that I want to run in a RAID 10. The Formula VII has a RAID controller, but it does not support JBOD.

I've never used Storage Spaces. Could I first install the OS on the SSD, then connect the other 4 HDD's, and use storage spaces to setup the RAID, and bypass the RAID controller on the MB?

Solution
All motherboards support JBOD.

Now you cant plug a different drive not in the raid to ports on the same controller.
You have 2 different controllers on your motherboard. Plug your RAID10 array into the slots of one controller and SSD/Optical drive into a difrrernt controller's ports.
