Hello,

I am trying to run the Samsung SSD 840 EVO performance restoration tool and I can not get it to work properly.

My system is as follows
FX-8350
Asus M5A99FX Pro r2.0
Samsung 840 EVO 240GB SSD
4x2GB DDR3 1333mhz
MSI GTX 560ti

When I try to run the application it gives me an error at 15% on the first step which is updating the firmware. The error message is " If you use a third party storage driver, then this software may not work properly. Please check whether your driver is the latest version or is provided by microsoft"

I update all my drivers in my system after getting this message , yet I still have the error message.

I also followed the steps outlined in the following thread

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1853857/samsung-840-evo-firmware-update-ext0bb0q.html

I did both the notepad method and also the BIOS method changing from ACHI to IDE but that just led me to blue screens while windows loaded.
Nothing has worked. It still tells me about third party drivers. I installed the official AMD drivers through catalyst. nothing from a third party.

I also tried just updating the firmware through samsung magician as it has worked in the past but it says that my firmware is up to date.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I am updating this in case anyone comes here with the same issue. I have solved the problem.

The main problem is in Samsung's PDF file that shows you how to update and or change your drivers. The Process they show does not work, however a similar process in the Device Manager will solve the issue. Following is a link to the actual Samsung Installation PDF file which may help some users.

1. First open up your device manager and click on the word "View" at the top. From the dropdown menu choose view by connection type. (Pictures shown in the Samsung PDF)

2. The navigate to the PCI Bus section just the...

I have been following the PDF file that came with the samasung update. Its is telling me to uninstall the Driver for the SSD which I did and then to verify that the drive is attached to the standard AHCI controller in the Device Manager. However I do not even see a Standard AHCI option in the device manager.

I am growing thoroughly confused here. Is there something wrong with my AHCI drivers? Are they not installed?

2. The navigate to the PCI Bus section just the same way as shown in the Samsung PDF file.

3. Right click on AMD SATA Controller and then click on Properties

4. Click on the Driver tab at the top of the new window. Then click Update Driver.

5. Now you want to click Browse my computer for Driver software

6. Now Click "Let me pick from a list of Device Drivers on my computer

7. Chose the Driver labeled Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller. This is the default driver installed with windows but is replaced by the AMD Chipset drivers when you install them.

8. Your computer will prompt you to restart and you should do so. When it reboots the Samsung software will work fine.

9. After running the Samsung software and allowing it to finish 100% You are free to revert back to the AMD Drivers in the same way only now you will select "Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller" from the Device Manager and revert that back to the AMD driver.
