Okay so here is the problem. I have 1TB Toshiba USB 3.0 external HDD. Yesterday I tired to connect it to my PC using USB 3.0 port. After connecting it to the computer, there was no Windows sound which you get when USB device is connected, however the LED indicating that device is working was blinking also I could feel that HDD was spinning. At this point, I am sure that my USB 3.0 ports are working fine on my PC as I tried connecting other USB 3.0 devices by conencting them to USB 3.0 port and they work perfectly. I have also noticed that when I connect the external HDD using USB3.0 cable (this cable: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/1/8/5/6/9/webimg/606062256_o.jpg) to USB 2.0 port it works without any issues. In addition, I tried using USB 2.0 cable (http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/datacables/micro_11.jpg) and I plugged it into USB 3.0 port and the HDD worked perfectly fine. So considering that it works using USB 2.0 connection, but doesn't when USB 3.0 is used, I am assuming that I need a new connector (SATA to USB 3.0) or preferably a new enclosure with that connector. I would be very happy if anyone could share their opinion on this issue that i am having.

Okay, Dovis!

Since it's no longer under warranty, a new controller would do the job and get your external to perform on USB 3.0 as it should!
I'd just do a quick check of the specs of the drive, if I were you.
There are quite a few external drives that incorporate a hardware encryption. Just make sure you don't have that, because it will make your drive inaccessible and useless once you get it out of the enclosure.

Good luck! Hope I helped! :)

Welcome to the community, Dovis!

Have you tried using a different USB 3.0 cable to power up your external HDD (preferably a shorter one)?
If this doesn't work, most probably the USB 3.0 controller in the external is failing. If your HDD is a new one and still under warranty, I'd definitely contact manufacturer's tech support, RMA it and get a replacement.
If you temper with the controller or the enclosure yourself, you might void the warranty of the drive. So be careful!
Another thing you can try is uninstalling the drive from the Device Manager, then reboot the PC. Afterwards Shutdown and reinstall the drive. It happens quite often that the drive just needs a fresh install to be working properly with the PC.
If this doesn't work, my guess would be the same as yours - faulty USB 3.0 controller.

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you SuperSoph_WD for your response,

I have tried using 3 different cables (Including the short one) all three cables have produced the same outcome (Only work with USB 2.0 port). Unfortunately, the drive is no longer under warranty so voiding the warranty is not an issue. I have tried to uninstall the drive from Device manager, still nothing. I will buy a new USB 3.0 controller and see if it solves my problem.
