Thoughts:

Drop the water cooling. There's too much that can go catastrophically wrong with it to use in a first build.
Get a Z97 motherboard. There's really no reason not to, Z87 you have to play the "is this updated for Haswell refresh or not?" game. Don't get the 7990, it's a lot of money for a card that's probably outclassed by a single 980 overclocked reasonably well.

Their nothing wrong with warer cooling I use it.
Defently get the GTX 980
That PC will probably last about 3 years when the low quality power supply gives out. I would look at other brands, Seasonic XFX, Rosewell Capstone, or EVGA G2 series.
And yes switch to a Z97 motherboard.

what sort of things may go wrong with the water cooling? i have only heard good things about the h100i. So whats the difference in the chipset z97 and z87? also the 980 is far more expensive, currently i can pick up a 7990 for around £200 less, another option i was thinking about was picking up a 280x which i can pick up for around £100 cheaper than the 7990 then picking up a second for crossfire if i need the extra power in the future, would that be better or?

why would the PSU give out so easily? also the 7990 is far cheaper for me at the moment looking at £250 in comparison to around £450 for the 980, would crossfire 280x be better than a 7990 in the long run?
