Display randomly disconnects, Audio stutter, Crash

Hey there,

My computer display randomly cuts out (display is lost and monitor goes to sleep), and when it cuts out whatever sound was playing is just looped rapidly making a loud buzz. The computer does not go into a blue screen and it does not shut down (forcing me to hard restart). The monitor just sleeps while the computer stays on if I don't restart it.

As of a few minutes ago, the display randomly cut out (cue monitor sleep) but the computer stayed on and my music kept playing fine.

This happens while I'm listening to music (with Firefox open in the background) and watching YouTube. This does NOT happen when I'm playing games. I have tried to see a pattern, but nothing more concrete than this. It doesn't happen at set times, it doesn't happen every time I'm watching videos, it doesn't happen every time I run iTunes.

My specs are: CPU: FX8350 Motherboard: Msi 990FXA-GD80 v2 GPU: HIS Iceq2 r9 280x PSU: CSM750W (Corsair 750 Watt) RAM: 2x4gb GSkill RipJaws

I have already tested my RAM, it passed without any issue. I have run prime95, my CPU temp didn't even pass 40c.

It is worth noting, I did knock the tower over the other day, and these issues did begin after it fell. I didn't fall too far (maybe 3 inches). I figured if I needed to re-seat anything, one of these tests would've failed.

If anyone could help me troubleshoot, that'd be amazing.

Thanks a ton.

I don't have an answer to this, but this happened to me twice while watching a youtube video @ 1080p. About 2 months ago, hasn't happened again, but I didn't do anything.

The monitor would go black, it said, no signal, meaning GPU wasn't sending signal. Audio was a loud loop buzzing of the repeated sound at that moment, just like yours. Computer was still on, fans still spinning, LEDS on, motherboard was on too. I have a memory of me checking the GPU itself and the fans were NOT spinning, but I don't know if I'm making this up.

When that happens again check the GPU see if the fans are still spinning on the GPU. also see if the rest of the computer is on (case fans still spinning, etc).

I have reseated the GPU but it hasn't helped. When it starts up, it now freezes 2 or 3 times before running normally.

I reseated the GPU. The problems persisted and then they disappeared the next day. Haven't had an issue since.

As George0107 suggested, I did watch the GPU when it blacked out and the fans were still spinning.
