I was trying to create a dual monitor setup, and now after the bios, neither monitor receives any signal. I went into the control panel, and had changed the display to multiple monitors. After that, my main monitor stopped working, and the second one still didn't work. I can only access the bios, after that I get a no signal message, and the monitor goes to sleep. Does anyone have any idea of what to do.

More about : moniter signal

What is your motherboard and GPU make/model? Where are the monitors plugged in and to what port?

I have an R9 280x and an Asus Z77-A ATX LGA1155. My DVI cable is plugged into my GPU port. I tried plugging it into my motherboard port, but that didn't display anything, whereas the GPU port would allow me to access the BIOs.

Make sure in your BIOS that you have the "primary video" set to PCI (not onboard graphics). You might have to boot into safe mode to verify your drivers.

I tried that and it didn't fix the problem. Do you have any other suggestions?

Is this a new GPU you installed, or did you just add a new monitor?

The GPU was already in. It's the second monitor that's new. It's a rather old monitor that was originally used with an XP desktop, would that have something to do with it?

How are the monitors connected (GPU port? > adapter? > cable > adapter? > Monitor Port).

The newer monitor was connected on the GPU's DVI port, and the old monitor was on the motherboard's VGA port.

Have you tried connecting both to the GPU (DVI & VGA)?

My GPU does not have a VGA port.

You need to connect the DVI-I to VGA (this connector is capable of digital and analog output - VGA is analog). You need a DVI-I to VGA cable or DVI-I to VGA adapter. Here is the link for one: http://www.amazon.com/HDE-DVI-DVI-I-male-Cable/dp/B002I...

The DVI-D should be connected to the monitor with DVI inputs (this will accept the digital only signal).

Try pulling the power cord from the monitors for a minute. When you plug them back in they should work. Worked for me.
