A Q6600 @ 3.4 GHz puts you a bit better than a Q9650, which was about on par with a Phenom II 955 which comes in close to a FX 4100.

Now, this doesn't mean that a Q6600@3.4GHz is good by today's standards, but it will do. My 955 is still chugging along adequately, but there are definitely certain scenarios where it isn't up to the task anymore and would get thrashed by a modern i5 or i7.

Maybe this can help a bit...

My old q6600@3.4 have half the performance of a 4770@stock in the "Cinebench 11.5" test (is a test very similar to rendering in 3D Studio MAX).

It gives me 3.84 points and the 4770 gives about 8 points.

You can search for Cinebench 11.5 JPGs in google for more information.

The Q6600 came out 7 years ago... today, it is considered low-end. You can get much better processors for around $100.

It's still a good processor if it's still working for you, but if your computer dies then I would build a new computer.
