Hello, my laptop has been running Slower than what it should be. So I really want to reset it. When I tried it told be to insert media. However I went from 7 to 8 to 8.1 by download so I don't have anything. I also think I have a few Viruses that need to be gone so resetting is almost a must.

(This is a legal copy of Windows)

How are you trying to reset it? Through the boot or right from PC Settings?

You should start with fresh install of Windows 7, them repeat the upgrade to Windows 8 and 8.1. Make sure you have handy activation keys for both 7 and 8!

Turn back in time a year or so (before Windows 8 existed). How would you reinstall Windows 7?
- you were brave enough when you bought your laptop and created recovery media, and keep original COA label on it.
or
- you bought retail copy of Windows 7, and installed it fresh.
Either way - boot with that DVD (recovery or retail), reinstall and activate Windows. It may turn your laptop also has some magic key to boot into recovery partition. RTFM (read that fine manual), or call your laptop' support and order recovery media.

After that, proceed with upgrade to Windows 8 in the same way as you did originally.
