Periodically, my mother's computer will go unresponsive, but in a strange way. There is no pattern to when this issue occurs, it just happens.

She can move the mouse and the computer detects mouse clicks (ex. clicking the close button on a window) and she is able to open the Start menu. She doesn't have the ability to open or close programs/windows and cannot shut down Windows. When he types something into the keyboard in a program like Firefox, it will detect all other buttons, except the one that she wants to type.

She is running Windows XP Service Pack 3 with all of the updates and I scan it regularly. I will run a scan again over night using Malwarebytes and AVG and ADWCleaner. I am computer savvy, but this is puzzling me.

Help.
