I'm building a budget rig for gaming and I had a few questions...
This is my build so far
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xQzGdC

As you can see I have yet to select a graphics card, because I'm having trouble finding out what would go best with my 6300 and mobo and be the best bang for the buck. I was thinking the 280X

My second question is will that 500w PSU be enough? I know AMD cpus and gpus are power hungry.

Also I don't need to have a super powerful gaming computer, I'm looking to spend $700-800 total on the rig itself. I already have mouse, keyboard, 1080p monitor, disc drive, and Windows 7 Premium.
Is overclocking a 6300 a good way to save money? Intel CPUs seem expensive but I know they are better

Not really a bad build I started off with a 6300 when it came out played pretty well. I would only change the mono grab a 990fx for a little more. My asus has taken a beating through many cpus

Powersupply wise is OK not the greatest but I build a frfriend a PCB with ththe 650w version and it's still going but he doesn't really stress it a whole lot.

What makes the 990FX worth it over the one I picked? It's like $50 more

You could always grab this basically like the 990fx board
M5A97 EVO R2.0

6+2 vrm phase design vs the 4+2 which is better when overclocking as well as less vrm heat. The 990s I believe come with 8+2 or higher.

I would grab the board above it's better suited for the 6300

If you plan on going crossfire etc the 990fx is better I'm not sure if most 970s support anything like that. I don't recall all the differences between the two

Yes the ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0 is the mobo I picked, it seemed the best feature wise for the price
