Hello all, I have been getting very hot temperatures on my CPU while playing BF4. About 86C. When I looked at my fan speed it was about 2000rmp, however when I turn the fan on max it goes all the way up to 3600rpm. The temperature then drops to about 75C. Is there a reason the fan is only staying at 2000? I would think 86C is to hot and the fan would be going crazy but no it just stays at 2000. Also is it bad to have the fan running at max? I have a X4 750k. Thanks!

Is AMD cool and quiet still a thing? I'm not sure it is, but you could try turning that off and seeing if the fan kicks but up to full speed. I never messed with it when I had an AMD cpu, but I can only assume by the name that it sacrifices some heat reduction for quietness. I could be -way- off though, and don't take this as a proper answer heh.

Ok so after some searching I have found there is often a problem with that socket reporting temps accurately. Best thing to do is to get the temps up with prime 95 or some such and touch the heatsink. If it is cold there is a problem with the cooler seating and/or thermal paste application. If it is just warm your good to go and should look into alternate programs for monitoring your temps. If it is hot enough to burn or close your heatsink fan are not working and you should look into an aftermarket cooler.

That being said its most likely a temp reporting issue because looking into the highest temps is around 80C. At that temp the cpu should throttle down and you would see huge performance hits.

I'm not sure if its the program I am using to monitor my temps because I have tried other ones and they give me the game results. I ran the CPU fan at 100% with the CPU at about 70-75C for around 25 minutes and when I touched the heat sink it felt like room temperature - so I'm assuming that would be considered cold. I just re-applied the thermal paste a few days ago so I don't think that would be the problem. I guess I'll have to check how my fan is sitting..

, not sure what cpu you have .can't find max temp for 750k , but 86 sounds high for AMD 75 is around max I would guess , what cooler you using ? You should replace the stock unit , they are loud and don't cool that well , you don't have to spend much , 20 - 30.00 should get you a decent cooler , hyper 212 or something similar .

Sounds like you will want to check and make sure the heatsink is making proper contact with the CPU. If your temps are accurate the heatsink should be quite hot. So double check the installation of the heatsink fan assembly. When you remove it look at the thermal paste and make sure it is getting smooshed into a very thin layer by the sink. I dont know what FM2 socket installation is exactly but if it has the four holes with a back plate like the AM3 your going to want to make sure everything is quite tight. If your re-install the sink and you can still touch it without feeling any heat you may want to look into getting an aftermarket cooler.
