Pardon my wall of text...

I got myself an Asus PCE-AC68. It is an 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1900 PCI-E Adapter. It works like a charm.

But the utility that manages this device (runs in tray) is constantly flooding my system with an error because it is trying to run a Broadcom driver that doesn't exist on my system. The utility and device is fully functional without the 'missing' driver. It floods events viewer with:

Event ID: 7000
Source: Service Control Manager
Details: The BCM42RLY service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

It does not cause any slowdown problems apart from the persistent errors. I just want the errors to go away. Apparently it is a issue common with users of the same wireless adapter. It occurs on all versions of Windows.

After a few days of deep Googling I could not find a solution or a case where someone managed to permanently solve the error without causing other errors. The driver file in question is BCM42RLY.sys that is supposed to be in the Windows/System32/drivers folder. It does not come with Windows nor is it created when installing the wireless adapter with its driver and utility. Updating to the latest version drivers from Asus did not fix it.

Trust me I have tried every claimed solution including going into registry and disabling the BCM42RLY driver service. If I delete the registry entries they will be created again on reboot by the Asus utility. The file cannot be found in the entirety of Broadcom's website. None of them work.

I have even tried making a blank file and saving it as BCM42RLY.sys in the correct folder but all it does is change the error to "The BCM42RLY service failed to start due to the following error: BCM42RLY is not a valid Win32 application"

So I would like to seek help in making a dud BCM42RLY.sys that Windows recognizes and will run without it doing anything. This is not urgent but I would be really happy to finally have an error free Windows.

Any help is appreciated.
