Hi

I know that this question has been asked several times and this will be asked for some more time to come.
Well, Firstly I decided to buy 8350 then people said that i7 4790k is much better.
Well for budget with 8350 I need to buy extra PSU and a very good cooler so the amount come closely to i7,
Let me state my requirements:
1. I want this system to be future proof for atleast 4-5 years
2. I will be playing every latest upcoming title like AC4 etc.
3. I want to play at HIGH settings.
4. I do a lot of downloading.
5. I will be doing a lot of multitasking.
6. I will be using this system for coding practice.

Regarding Budget, I can buy the 8350 Right now but for i7 and a good i7 board I need to save money till January and then Ican buy it.
I am new to overclocking so will not be doing much overclocking at first but I wanna get maximum from my Rig.

Well, which should I go for?
8350 or i7 4790k?

1. I want this system to be future proof for at least 4-5 years. Goes to the i7, beats 8350 in every benchmark. 8350 is good enough now, but i7 beats 8350 and will be a good processor for years to come.
2. I will be playing every latest upcoming title like AC4 etc. Toss up, depends more on graphics than CPU
3. I want to play at HIGH settings. Good GPU is more important than CPU. Aim for a Nvidia GTX 660 or AMD HD 7950 or higher.
4. I do a lot of downloading. More dependent on ISP than CPU.
5. I will be doing a lot of multitasking. Need RAM, but goes to i7, stronger 4 cores plus it has HT so it really has 8 logical cores. AMD has 4 weaker cores plus 4 pinpoint "floating" cores which is similar to HT.
6. I will be using this system for coding practice. Toss up, my brother codes on a X4 Phenom 965, pretty fast unless you are trying to make AAA titles.

i7 is better but 8350 has more price performance valve. Winner i7 but depends how patient you are.

If that's all you're getting then I'd suggest you get an AMD FX 8350. The FX 8350 is good at multitasking and your graphics card that you plan on buying is just midrange so you're probably going to be GPU limited no matter which CPU you get anyway.

@theonrm2 well if that's the case. Can you suggest me a good GPU under Rs.30000 so that it will not bottleneck my CPU.
you can look on www.snapdeal.com

EDIT: I will be gaming at 1280*720 res or at max 1600*900

Any sub $100 graphics card can max out at 1280X720 or 1440X900. If that's the case then I'd recommend the 8350 if you are gaming at that resolution. I recommend this to save money if you are gaming at these resolutions. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113359&cm_re=AMD_A10-_-19-113-359-_-Product

If you want a graphics card. It's a bit dated but it was a high end card about two years ago.

r9 280x way over kill.........

He wants this gaming PC to last 4 to 5 years. If he buys an entry level or old card it won't last that long even at 720p. Don't forget that he wants to be able to play high settings for that whole time period of 4 to 5 years. I think an R9 280x can do that but I have serious doubts about old or entry level cards. Games are starting to get a whole lot more demanding in case you haven't noticed. I tested a GTX 460 last night to see if it could run today's games and it can run games at 720p with low or medium settings. I tested Watch_Dogs, Battlefield 4, Crysis 3, Mortal Kombat, Grid 2, and NBA 2k15. A GTX 470 can still run just about anything at 720p with high settings while the GTX 460 can't and the GTX 460 was overkill at 720p back in 2010 and 2011. I doubt an entry level or old card will last 4 to 5 years at 720p with high settings.

I guess you are right, but a mid range card will suffice for his purposes. But food for thought, I had a used a shitty 650 paired with a FX 6100 and I had easy 60 fps on max for BF4. I think an older card (especally the 6970) or an entry level card can play on high easy for the next 4-5 years.

The 6970 performs somewhere in between a GTX 470 and a GTX 480. It's closer to the GTX 480 though. So it should do good enough at 720p for a few years. I just am not sure about how long it will last whereas I know the R9 280x or even an R9 280 will last 5 years at 720p for sure.

Are you actually serious?

Realistically; There is nothing you build today that will be future proof for that long, technology is changing so fast today, just now stepping into DDR4 memory and just one year away will be amazing, two years away will make systems today barely competative, and 4-5 years away todays build will be a classic Model T.

Do not overlook the fact we are finally crossing into DDR4 territory, look back at what happened in the past with the change from DDR2 to DDR3, major platform changes are coming!

The same as the DDR3 the first steps into DDR4 territory will be mainstream, it will take time before the truly capable modules will arrive on the scene, it will take time to get them in the high capability range that overclockers will be drooling over, but when that day comes our systems today won't hold a candle to what's coming!

It's an exciting time for sure!

But between the 2 CPUs you're considering definitely go with the Intel i7-4790K, or you will later on seriously regret it, I guarantee you!

Don't worry about DDR4 memory(it won't be worth the upgrade) or "technology changing fast". As actually tech advancement is the slowest it's ever been... the industry has badly stagnated (or matured, I suppose; depending on how you look at it).

But the 8350 is too old of a chip, it was released 2 years ago (Oct. 2012). You don't want 2012 tech, with 2015 right around the corner. Let alone in 2018/19, lol. Same goes for the Radeon 280; it's just a rebadged 7970 (late 2011 tech).

Buy the latest CPU architecture. Like an I5-4670K and a better GPU when you have the funds. Nvidia Maxwell or Radeon R9-3XX(near future).

I went with an i7, but in general it's strong hyperthreading cores & 2mb of extra cache are overkill, not needed.
